Art Institute of Chicago
Arts & Culture · Chicago, IL
About
The modern wing's glass facade floods the entrance with light. Inside, you'll find over 300,000 works, including pieces by queer artists Andy Warhol, David Hockney, Beauford Delaney, and John Singer Sargent. The museum's main building dates to 1893, while the Renzo Piano-designed Modern Wing opened in 2009. It's a mixed crowd, and the outdoor seating offers a break between galleries.
Thursday evening hours until 8pm make for a quieter visit. Check Yelp's confirmed hours before you go: open Monday and Wednesday through Sunday, closed Tuesdays. If you're up for more culture, the Museum Of Contemporary Art Chicago (MCA Chicago) is nearby.
Located in Downtown Chicago, it's easily accessible and surrounded by the city's cultural hub.

“What a Wonderful Museum!”
When I was a kid, my aunt would take me to the Art Institute to give me some culture. It was over my head then, but now as an adult I am very thankful for that early exposure. This is a beautiful museum with an impressive array of spectacular artwork. The Art Institute truly is a world-class museum.
