Clothing and accessories, gifts, and bookstores are the three biggest groups in this category, and each tends to serve a different purpose — a clothing shop is usually a straightforward retail stop, while gift shops and bookstores are more often community fixtures in their own right, the kind of place people browse as much as buy from.
Independent and secondhand shops show up often enough here that this category skews smaller and more local than a typical retail directory — most listings are one-off stores, not chains, which is part of why the offerings breakdown below is worth checking before you go: it tells you what a shop actually stocks, not just that it exists.

What People Are Saying
“Great Place for Mens Underwear, swim and active”
They consistently stock excellent men's underwear, swimwear, and athletic wear. They're the only shop in the city that sells swimsuits all year and are the exclusive Austin retailers for Addicted, James Tudor, and Freedom Reigns. Staff are extremely friendly, products are great, and it's a fun experience.

“A Must Check Out - Store”
If you're visiting from out of town, make this store a stop during your stay. You can find your style and learn about local happenings in one place. It's located on the edge of the Botanical Gardens and the gay area, and parking is easy in the rear. It's been around for years and has a good selection. You won't find every brand here, but it will satisfy your immediate fashion needs.

“A little bit of everything”
A while back my aunt and her family came for dinner and she asked if there was a place in the area to buy a feathered boa. I told her sure, there's a hardware store just down the street. It didn't hit me until she laughed how unusual that sounded. But Cliff's truly does carry a huge assortment: hardware, lumber, paint, gardening items, kitchen goods, toys, arts and crafts, and drag accessories. The neighborhood is pretty self-sufficient, largely because Cliff's fills in most of the missing pieces on its own.

“Unique home furnishings”
This one-of-a-kind shop on Washington Street is my go-to for unique housewarming presents. It's near several other distinctive gift stores, making it a great area to explore.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many gay and LGBTQ+ owned shops are listed on this directory?
The number is shown in the stats above and updates automatically as listings are added, verified, or closed.
What kinds of shops are included?
Clothing and accessories, gift shops, bookstores, secondhand and vintage stores, furniture, and arts & crafts are the most common types. The offerings breakdown on this page reflects the real mix across every listed shop.
Are these all LGBTQ+ owned, or just LGBTQ+ friendly?
Both — this directory doesn't distinguish the two in its listings. A shop appears here because it's recognized as part of the local LGBTQ+ scene, whether through ownership, focus, or reputation.
Is there a gay bookstore listed near me?
Bookstores are one of the most common shop types in this directory. Search a specific city's shops page and check the offerings tags to see if a bookstore is listed there.
How do I find shops in a specific city?
