Walking into Liberty Hall, you're stepping into a space that's been hosting cultural events for 142 years. This downtown Lawrence landmark started as a gathering spot for political debates after the Sack of Lawrence in 1856. It was rebuilt in Beaux-Arts style after a 1911 fire and now functions as a cinema showing first-run indie films, plus a concert venue that's hosted acts like Sigur Rós. You can also rent wedding and event space here.
The building's history includes a stint as a video store — it still rents Blu-Ray, DVD, and VHS. Hours are limited: Wednesday through Thursday 3-9pm, Friday through Sunday 1-9pm. It's at the corner of 7th and Mass, right downtown. For live performances on a bigger scale, check the Lied Center nearby.
