The Arabia Steamboat Museum displays 200 tons of perfectly preserved artifacts from a riverboat that sank near Kansas City in 1856 and was buried under a cornfield for 132 years. Treasure hunters recovered the wreck in 1988, choosing to share the find rather than sell it. Now you can walk past crates of boots, dishes, and tools, all looking almost new after being sealed in silt.
The museum opens its doors daily from 10am to 5pm (Sundays at noon). It's been covered by National Geographic and Antiques Roadshow, and it's a reliable stop for anyone curious about frontier life.
