About
If you're an art lover visiting Montrose, the Menil Collection is a must. It's Renzo Piano's first building in the US, set among old oak trees and historic bungalows. The collection focuses on Surrealist and Modern art, with iconic works by Magritte, Dalí, and Ernst. You'll also find dedicated spaces for Flavin, Rothko, and Twombly nearby.
The museum is open Wednesday through Sunday, 11am to 7pm. Admission and parking are always free. Exhibits rotate frequently, so there's often something new. It's a calm, uncrowded alternative to larger museums in the area.

“World Class”
This is a unique destination, and for art lovers, it offers an incredible experience of important Surrealist and Modern works. You'll find famous pieces by Magritte and Dalí, as well as a Flavin installation in its own museum, the renowned Rothko Chapel, a dedicated Twombly gallery, and more—the rotating collection provides a constantly changing perspective. The building itself, designed by Renzo Piano (his first U.S. project, similar to the Pompidou Center in Paris), is surrounded by beautiful old oak trees, spacious lawns, and nearby Houston bungalows painted a distinctive shade of puce. The whole neighborhood feels organized around free art enjoyment in a way I've never encountered. Absolutely worth a special trip.
