About
Wed through Sun, 10am to 4pm, the Brattleboro Museum and Art Center is a calm mid-day stop in downtown Brattleboro. Housed in the town's historic Union Station, it was founded in 1972 by two citizen groups who merged to save the building from demolition. Today it's a non-collecting contemporary art museum, showing 15-20 exhibitions a year by living artists from the region and beyond. The bright gallery spaces still echo the train station's original architecture.
BMAC also runs 60-70 public programs annually and partners with local schools and service organizations. It's a straight-friendly space, welcoming to everyone. If you're catching a show at Latchis Theatre later, the museum makes a good pre-curtain browse. The grounds are available to rent for weddings, but most visitors just wander the galleries at their own pace.
