Faces Nightclub
Dancing · Video Bar · Sacramento, CA
About
The bass from one dance floor bleeds into the next, drag shows light up the video bar, and yes, there's a swimming pool inside. Faces Nightclub has been Sacramento's anchor gay nightclub since 1985, now packing three distinct dance floors, karaoke rooms, and a massive layout that holds up to 1,000 people. Happy hour and a full bar keep the crowd fueled, with best nights falling on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
It draws a mixed-age local crowd, from 20-somethings to 40-somethings, all moving between the different rooms. If you want to start your night a few blocks over, Badlands Sacramento is a shorter walk and may be a better fit if the energy here feels too intense. Reservations are accepted, and there's outdoor seating when you need air.
Faces Nightclub is located in Sacramento's Midtown neighborhood, a lively area with a concentration of bars and nightlife.

I was refused entry. I'm a man of color visiting for the first time and was dropped off by a ride-share whose driver hinted there are other bars nearby. I threw away a coffee cup with a lid in their outside trash bin. Security wanted to check my fanny pack, but the guy next to him stopped him and said I couldn't come in because I threw away a coffee cup in their bin. I said I was confused—it was a coffee cup, and he assumed it was alcohol. I said I was visiting for the first time and asked if I broke a law. He said yes, you can't walk up to a bar already drinking. I said wow. So I walked across the street to the next bar and found out I was also banned there. It feels very racial to the point that Badlands let me in before I got back in my ride-share to go to my hotel and ignore this city, as they first said they had already been 'radioed' so I couldn't come in.

I used to go there a long time ago and loved it, and went a few weeks ago. The clientele was really dismissive and in their own world. It felt like we, as older but not that old men, were made fun of by some of the female clientele. Karaoke was very macho, straight, and aggressive. The staff were nice enough, even after the burnt plastic taste in the bottled beer (and they exchanged it without hesitation). If you are Latino, a straight Latino, or a girl who grinds it, young and fluent in Spanish, you will fit in here now.

My first visit there, good music, good crowd, and service was good too.

They took my identification away and thought it wasn't me because it was issued by Florida. They wanted me to find a police officer to get it back. I'm never going back there and don't recommend it either.
