About

A mixed-age crowd fills this Castro cocktail lounge and nightclub, drawn by the balcony overlooking Market and Noe streets. It's some of the best gay people watching in the world as guys stream in and out of the gym across the street and nearby cafes. Grab a strong cocktail from one of the cute bartenders, then head outside. When it gets chilly, go back inside for the DJ and the lively atmosphere.

Sunday afternoons feature Jock Sundays, hosted by and donating to a local gay sports team each week. The event brings in new folks along with regulars and gets packed with a good-looking, non-pretentious crowd. The venue also welcomes drag performers on occasion. It's adults-only.

Lookout sits at the intersection of Market and Noe streets, the epicenter of San Francisco's Castro neighborhood, surrounded by cafes, gyms, and other LGBTQ+ venues.

Nice spot for watching people from the balcony when the weather is good.

“OK for a weekday”

This place is for drag fans. The view was the best I've seen at any club or bar in San Francisco, but it felt less lively than drag spots in Los Angeles. The queen downstairs made it feel welcoming though. The music and decor were fine, but having a second-floor view was the best part.

“Good looking crowd, not pretentious”

This spot is great because it attracts a mix of ages—mostly younger but not only that—and has a relaxed vibe. Sunday afternoons for "jock sundays" are my favorite. Each week it's hosted by and benefits a local gay sports team, so newcomers join the regulars. It gets very crowded, but the crowd is attractive and not snobby.

My friends and I have been coming to Lookout for years and always have a blast. The crowd is really friendly, the music is great, and the drinks are awesome. Totally worth visiting. Highlights: great music, cute bartenders, fun crowd, good happy hour, strong drinks.

Order a strong drink from one of the cute bartenders, then bring your friends out to the deck overlooking the intersection of Market and Noe, right in the center of the Castro. It offers some of the best gay people-watching around, with people coming and going from the gym across the street, Cafe Flore, and Pete's Coffee. When it gets cold, head back inside to enjoy the DJ and the lively crowd at this often packed venue.
