The Cinch Saloon

Pub/Tavern · Dive Bars · San Francisco, CA

About

Open from 10am to 2am every day, The Cinch Saloon anchors Polk Street's last stretch of old San Francisco queer history. This dive bar bridges generations with a crowd that mixes 40-somethings, 50-somethings, and occasional new meat, all comfortable under the same roof. It's adults-only, casual, and dog-friendly, with a sun-and-shade smoking patio out back.

Fridays bring a dance party and an old-fashioned drag show that feels more like a neighborhood gathering than a production. On Saturdays the vibe shifts to a laid-back pool-shooting scene. The staff treat regulars like friends, and the crowd is known for being friendly and welcoming. It's a good spot to start a Polk Street night or just settle in with a beer for a few hours.

Situated on Polk Street, this bar is a remnant of the area's once-thriving gayborhood, offering a laid-back alternative to the more polished Castro scene.

“Patio Bar”

Whenever I've been away from the city for a while, this is where I head first upon returning. I've gotten to know the staff and regulars, and the dogs are a huge plus—it's one of the most dog-friendly places I know, and I love furry animals. The smoking patio is nice, with sun on one side and shade on the other. Overall, it's a relaxed bar with an interesting mix of people.

“First time back in 5 years”

Friday brought the most diverse crowd I've seen at a gay bar in a long time, reminding me of old times in this city. I highly recommend going on Friday. The bartenders are very friendly and there's no attitude. The bar attracts all kinds of people, and it's clear that's why people come. Everyone mingles well, and the back patio is a smoker's paradise.

“Not bad”

Drinks are strong, but I'm still searching for the hotspot in this city.

“Fun Fun Fun and Nice too”

This is a great spot with friendly bartenders and a party atmosphere. You can come alone or with friends. I enjoy the dance music on Friday, along with an old-fashioned drag show. Friday is the biggest party night, while Saturday is more laid-back with a pool-shooting crowd. Whether you're an older drag queen or new to the scene, this is where your night out on this street should start, especially on Fridays.
