At the corner of Castro and Market, Twin Peaks Tavern was the first American gay bar to open its windows fully to the street, a defiant statement that being gay didn't need hiding. Today an older crowd of regulars and visitors gather to watch the busy intersection through those same windows.
The bar opens at noon most days and stays open late. The vibe is casual, the history undeniable. It's a short walk to Martuni's if you want to add a piano bar to your evening.

“very nice and comfortable place”
I've visited many times and loved sitting in the nice sunlight or looking out the window at the traffic. It's a place with a long history, and I recommend it.
