Roscoe's has been Northalsted's definitive drag show bar since 1987, and it still pulls a young, mixed crowd with cheap drinks and nonstop entertainment. The split layout is distinctive: a casual front bar for post-work hangouts, then a dance party in the back room. Expect go-go dancers, video screens, and a crowd that ranges from 20-somethings to 30-somethings plus plenty of straight guests mixed in.

Service runs late every night, with Sunday opening at noon for dollar beers and Britney Spears. The outdoor patio is a warm-weather favorite for relaxing before the party starts. If you're bar hopping on Halsted, Sidetrack is an easy next stop.

Even years after moving away, you're guaranteed to run into an old friend whenever you come back. Laid-back atmosphere.

Roscoe's is my top choice for dancing at night. I also like going there for a casual drink after work. It's like a mullet bar—a relaxed front area and a party room in back. They also serve food, which is handy if you get hungry. In summer, there's a patio that's nice for relaxing when there's no party. Their daily specials are unbeatable. For example, on Thursdays rail mixers are $2, and I often go on Sundays for dollar beers and Britney Spears. Highlights: great music, cute bartenders, fun crowd, excellent happy hour, rowdy atmosphere, strong drinks, and a "yaaas" vibe.

“Younger”

This place attracts twinks and drag queens. I'd rather go to Sidetrack or Replay for bars in Boystown. Even better, check out bars in Andersonville.

“lots of action”

This bar has been a reliable, fun spot for probably over 25 years. They have really good drink specials, especially on Sundays, with $2 domestic beer specials.
