About
The Dunes Resort is the Midwest's largest GLBT resort complex, with six bars, a hotel, cottages, and an outdoor pool. Originally opened in 1981, it's been owned since 1998 by three partners who started with margaritas and a dream. Drag shows and karaoke happen here, and the Sunday Tea Dance on the huge deck is a summer tradition.
The pool is the daytime hub, with a crowd of friendly Midwestern guys in their best swimsuits. After dark, the wooded area behind the motel has a reputation for after-hours action. The resort is dog-friendly and offers free WiFi. If you want a quieter option, Guardian Brewing Company is nearby for craft beer and pub fare.

“Fun Weekend with Black and White Men Together”
Even though it was a bit rainy, the Saturday night crowd filled the place. Mike did a great job taking care of everything for the BWMT event. George was the best bartender all weekend, very nice and cute, and made strong drinks.

“Fun holiday...to much local drama though”
I was there for Memorial Day weekend, Friday through Sunday were all enjoyable. Good music, friendly crowd, and mostly customer-friendly staff. Rob at the upstairs bar was especially attentive and made the best drinks. There's plenty of space, so you never have to squeeze through the crowd. Poolside during the day offers great eye candy, friendly guys from the area showing off their swimsuits. A couple of downsides: $4 for bottled water is ridiculous, and on Monday night after most tourists left, the local employees got drunk and there was a lot of local drama. If you're not a local, you might as well not exist, as they only care about their own problems. Too bad, it was a downer end to an otherwise fun weekend.

“Somewhat Trashy But OK...”
That's what I like about it, it's not a five-star resort at all. Lots of hot action in the wooded area behind at night. Prices are kind of high because of the short season. Best time to go is weekends when the Chicago crowd comes. Plenty to do in town and Oval Beach is awesome too. The north end is the gay section, lots of skin action there as well. Great summer getaway.

“Trashy Summer Fun”
This place is always a blast on hot summer holiday weekends. They have a huge outdoor wooden deck with a bar and dance floor where you can bump and grind, get turned on, and then sneak off to the woods behind the motel for a release, or just go back to your room. The rooms range from tasteful to trashy. Awesome summer tea dance on Sundays.
