“My Favorite Bar”
There's plenty to like here. It has a neighborhood bar vibe with extras like the Mine Shaft for themed nights and a big outdoor dance floor. The owner keeps improving the place. It's great for casual hangouts, leather, gear, and drag events, plus pool, darts, and karaoke. Feels like a second home.

“New Management New Bar”
The new owner and management have really turned things around. There are regular events in the Mine Shaft basement bar, as well as shows and dances on the back stage, including drag shows. The main bar keeps that neighborhood feel. Under the previous owner, it never took off, but the new owner has done amazing things with the space.

“Disappointing”
I was really let down by a visit this past January. I do like the bar's style — it has a cool, retro feel. I stopped in for a drink on a Saturday around 8pm. The bartender seemed disinterested and had no energy. When another customer asked how she was, she just said "same old"; asked about her holidays, she replied "so, so"; other questions got one-word answers. She just didn't have any personality or interest in the customers. That Saturday night they were watching some TV show — the place was quiet and dead as soon as you walked in, which should have been a warning sign. I had one beer and left. Not worth the walk up the hill. Later I saw the same bartender working at the Saloon, which says a lot.

“Could be worse”
The bar itself is actually fine and they have draft beer. I went early evening when only a few others were there, but it's far from the seediest bar I've seen. However, someone at another bar in town mentioned that the upstairs and downstairs are where it gets really bad. I didn't get a chance to see those areas.
