5 Star Saloon
Dive Bars · Reno, NV
About
A dive bar with stripper poles and a stage, this place has been Reno's gay hub since 1971. It's the longest-running gay bar in Nevada, and it shows its age with pride: rainbow banners, locally made art, and a genuinely unpretentious crowd. Drinks can feel pricey outside happy hour, but the double happy hour daily from 5PM to 9PM brings $3 well cocktails and $3 domestic drafts.
Karaoke runs Tuesday through Thursday. Friday and Saturday the dance floor fills up and DJ Izer spins. Sunday is free-spin for aspiring DJs. The bar sits between 2nd and 1st St., close to the casinos. It's not a polished spot, but regulars say the friendly bartenders and welcoming attitude make up for it. Saturday nights are slammed and feel like a nightclub.

“can’t read out of state ids”
The bartender wouldn't accept my Indiana ID because of an overlay, and I'm 34.

“Meh - Just okay”
Maybe it was too cold for people to go out or it just wasn't a great night (Friday after Christmas), but the place felt quiet and low-key. Standard gay bar atmosphere, with friendly bartenders (both men and women, which was nice). Fortunately it's near all the casinos. I'll give it another chance next time I'm in town.

“Feels like home!”
I was on a singing contract at a nearby casino for 4 months and we were housed next door. There's something about a 24-hour gay bar that always makes me smile. I even met a nice guy here. Reno's gay scene is small, but if you want a stiff drink and a visit to somewhere authentic, properly gay with rainbow flags and local art on the walls, give it a try. Saturday nights are packed and feel like a nightclub.

“Gay Mix bar?”
It's a fun bar, but the drinks can be pricey. Dancing is enjoyable, but the crowd is mixed now, so make sure a guy is gay before you make a move.
