Flaming Saddles Saloon
Country Western · Dancing · New York, NY
About
This Hell's Kitchen saloon is New York's gay country-western bar, where bartenders often climb on top of the bar to dance for the crowd. It's a shamelessly kitschy spot with a casual vibe, open nightly until 4am.
The crowd leans 30-something and trans-friendly, though some reviews note it's become popular with straight tourists. It's a full bar with happy hour, and Thursday through Saturday are the busiest nights.
Located in Hell's Kitchen, Manhattan's historic gayborhood with a dense concentration of LGBTQ+ bars and clubs.

“Tourist trap”
After reading about this new bar I was excited that New York City had a gay country western bar and looked forward to visiting. Unfortunately, it turned out to be just another tourist trap where straight tourists and women can sit back with overpriced drinks and laugh at gay men who are honestly trying to pursue their own interests. This straight-owned club is nothing more than an opportunistic venue that mocks gay men trying to be butch or recreate "Oklahoma." Please don't support it. It's no different from Lips making fun of the transgender community.

“I wish it were a GAY bar again!”
When they first opened, the place was really cool. I enjoyed taking visitors to the only gay country music and western bar in New York City, but things have changed. The Hell's Kitchen gay bar scene has been taken over by straight women, which then brings in straight men who beat up gay men to prove their masculinity. As a gay man, I go to gay bars because they should be a safe space, but now I have to worry that another man might be offended by a simple come-on and attack me. There have been too many issues, and I feel too uncomfortable to go there anymore. I do not know what the solution is, but I will avoid places with straight women, straight men, or loud music. Also, this is the gay bar where a straight woman was raped in the bathroom by a straight man. What is that about?

“Totally unique & great fun”
Unapologetically kitsch, this bar has a no-attitude vibe with attractive and friendly staff and easygoing customers. Bar top line dancing at a gay bar? What's not to love?
