Marie's Crisis
Piano Bar · Karaoke · New York, NY
About
The piano here gets a workout from 4pm until 4am every night. Marie's Crisis is a basement bar in the West Village where showtunes rule and the crowd often includes ringers who can really sing, though knowing your musical theater beyond the standards helps you keep up.
It's divey and casual, with a full bar and happy hour that draws a relaxed crowd. The regulars skew 30s to 50s, and the vibe is welcoming to everyone, including trans folks and mixed groups. Reviews call it a lovable dump, and that's part of the charm.
Located in the West Village, a historic LGBTQ+ hub in Manhattan with many nearby bars and restaurants.

“I feel like SINGING!”
A very fun and welcoming piano bar with a great crowd. Lots of enthusiastic group singing. Best to come with friends, especially your girlfriends.

What used to be a classic queer piano bar for older show tune fans has been taken over by straight women and some mostly straight guys. I wouldn't call this a gay bar anymore. The drinks are too expensive.

“A joy and treasure”
This place is a real find! It's a gay piano bar that focuses on showtunes. Over the years I've had countless great times here, including a pleasant conversation with a bartender after watching what I consider the worst Broadway musical I've ever seen, Lestat. I introduced my niece to it and am looking forward to going back soon.

“Great crowd, but know your showtunes!”
Marie's Crisis is a wonderful piano bar with a welcoming crowd that often includes very skilled performers. However, you'll enjoy yourself more if you know your showtunes well, and I don't mean just the famous ones. Not knowing the songs can make it tough to get into the evening's vibe. Also, there's a limit to how many times a person can hear Seasons of Love in a single night.

“Love it but want more”
It feels like every time I get to Marie's Crisis, the music is just ending. I walk into a space that feels comfortable and familiar, but then the singing stops and I'm left wishing there was more. I'd love to show up one day when a famous performer is hanging around the piano at this charmingly worn-out spot.
