Women can enter only as a guest of a male patron. The bar has enforced this rule to keep its atmosphere. Never a cover. Daily specials are posted. If you're looking for a no-frills gay dive in the West Village, Ty's fits the bill.

Very snobbish and extremely racist. Strange because the customers are mostly old and not good-looking. Truly one of the worst bar experiences I've ever had.

“Bear’s bar”

I really enjoy this spot. The people are welcoming and there's no pretension. I make a point to stop by at least once whenever I'm in the city.

Cliquey and snobbish for no reason, this long-standing bar has the same attitude from the bartenders. It's been like that for decades.

“A CLASSIC NYC GAY MEN'S BAR”

Ty's has been around for a long time but never feels outdated. It's a classic gay neighborhood bar for masculine men who enjoy other masculine men. Bears, bikers, leathermen, and similar groups hang out here. No drag queens or go-go dancers. Women are only allowed if they're with a male patron, which keeps straight women from taking over like they did in Hell's Kitchen bars, which are now half to two-thirds straight women on weekends, driving gay men away. Drinks are a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. Ty's is one of my favorite bars in all of New York State, not just the city. No cover ever, daily specials, good times.
