“Unfounded Rude Arrogance”

During the Fourth of July weekend, some friends and I visited Columbia for a special event. We wanted to check out the gay nightlife and decided on Capital Club since the website made it look like a nice social bar. As soon as we walked in, the bartender—the same one from the website—came over and arrogantly told us it was a private club and we weren't welcome. I was shocked by the rudeness and arrogance. Considering it was a Saturday night during a holiday weekend in downtown Columbia, you'd expect the place to be busy, but when I looked around as I was being shown out, I saw that all four men who were supposedly members had none of the qualities I'd expect from a private club. They advertise themselves as dignified and a gentleman's club, but the website's self-indulgence shows that no matter how classy or inviting you advertise, being unwelcoming to visitors or potential new members just reveals how classless and sketchy the place really is. I hope the rest of Columbia isn't like this.

“Intimiate and friendly bar”

Capital Club is members-only, but they do let visitors in if you call ahead. The bar has a beautiful wooden bar, great music, and lots of theater posters signed by touring show performers. For people who like to smoke and drink, it's pretty much the only place in town where you can still do that.
