Michael's (Mike's) Outpost
Piano Bar · Cabaret · Houston, TX
About
Michael's (Mike's) Outpost opens daily at 3pm (2pm on weekends) and stays open until 2am, making it a natural after-work or late-afternoon stop. This Montrose piano bar keeps things low-key with pool tournaments, a cabaret vibe, and occasional drag shows. Shirtless bartenders and a friendly regular crowd set the tone.
Pool table's available if you want to shoot a game alongside the piano sing-alongs. The crowd skews 40-something and local, so expect a relaxed, unpretentious evening. Happy hour draws a steady stream before the later cabaret acts.
Located in Houston's Montrose neighborhood, near Mandell Street, a known hub for LGBTQ+ nightlife.

“Quaint”
On weekends the drag show starts early at 7:30pm. Otherwise it is a nice quiet piano bar frequented by middle-aged queer people.

“My home away from home away from home”
Michaels is wonderful. As a woman, I have plenty of men to be friends with and to care for. The talented performer from Phil and Derek's is often there playing piano bar and leading sing-alongs.

“What can I say!!!!!”
Michaels Outpost was a great place in the early 2000s. After Mr. Outpost 2002 Allen Cole left and stepped down, it wasn't the same anymore. He and his performers put on an amazing show back then. Whatever happened to the good old days. But then again, Donnie and Mondo are still there.

“super bowl bust”
Arrived at game time. There was one elderly gentleman at one end of the bar doing crosswords. The bartender was shirtless (nice). Another customer smiled. Four of us total. When I asked the bartender where the large screen was (they only had one 18-inch monitor), he said sit close, you're not that old. Left for Georges.
