About
Expect more than just a typical chain gym at LA Fitness on Camelback Rd. This location has a strong gay following, making it a popular spot for LGBTQ+ workouts. The gym is well-equipped with everything from free weights to basketball courts, racquetball, and a pool. You'll find a diverse crowd, including gay men, late-teenage gymrats, and even gothboys.
But the vibe is peculiar. Don't expect a cheerful atmosphere; the cruising is tense, and the carpet near the locker rooms is dirty. Showers with curtains left ajar invite attention. If you're looking for a more laid-back gay gym experience, consider Physiques Gym nearby.

“Outdated and old gym”
Even though this location is known as the gay gym for this chain, I've been going there less often. The equipment feels old and worn out, and several machines are usually broken. The carpet is dirty and ragged, especially near the locker rooms. The whole place looks dated. Compared to other branches, this one is smaller but always crowded, so I avoid it, especially on Monday and Tuesday. There's an empty store next door that used to be Linens 'n Things, and its parking lot is full of gym members. I've heard this gym will close when the new one on 7th Avenue and Camelback opens, which will be more convenient near the Melrose gay area. That new location was previously a Target. Now the gay crowd can work out and then go across to Charlie's for drinks.

“Dynamic Tension”
This gym has the best equipment I've seen—I can't think of anything it's missing. The layout is large and open, easy to move around, with lots of amenities like basketball, racquetball, and swimming. The locker rooms need padlocks, and you have to walk through a wet floor to reach the restroom. The changing area has carpet that's unpleasant to walk on barefoot when wet. Something odd about this place, even after visiting at different times, is that it's probably the least cheerful gym I've ever been to. Nobody looks like they're having fun, and the cruising feels tense. There are some attractive men, but also many late-teen and early-twenty gym rats who gather in groups around equipment and lift weights awkwardly or drop them loudly. There are even skinny tattooed goth guys mixed with cholo types. It's visually interesting but not inspiring.

“Probably the gayest gym in town”
About half the men here are gay, even if they don't seem it right away. The gym has all the equipment you could want and is full of good-looking guys. Leaving your shower curtain slightly open in the showers will definitely attract some attention.
