If you're serious about bodybuilding, Hillcrest's World Gym (now The Gym) is where the big guys train. The space is cavernous and packed with free weights, cardio machines, and equipment for any complex workout. While not a gay gym, there's a strong gay presence, making it a favorite spot in San Diego's queer fitness scene. The locker room is no-frills but part of the experience. Day passes available.

“Hardcore and World Class”
There are certain gyms where you can fully immerse yourself in the bodybuilding world and become part of that scene in an almost mystical way. Quads Chicago, Gold's Venice, and World San Diego are like that. If you want to be motivated by the biggest guys from muscle magazines, they'll be here. This gym is huge and extremely well-equipped, offering everything you could need for a simple, complex, or hardcore workout, including cardio. It's very straightforward, and the grim locker room seems intentional, complete with suspiciously grimy-looking carpet. But the men here are freakishly huge and muscular, appearing in ripped-collar shirts and baggy pants, with massive calves, shoulders, and glutes. It's worth a special visit. Not a gay gym, but there's a strong gay presence.
