World Gym on East Ave is absolutely the worst company I have ever dealt with. They engage in so many illegal practices. Everyone should be warned. They claim you never canceled, send your account to collections, and don't care if you never received a copy of your cancellation form. Now I owe $450 to a collection agency because nobody canceled my account or told me the payments weren't going through after I changed banks. So to the gym owner: I want this off my credit report immediately because it's obvious nobody knows how to properly submit a cancellation form. I wasn't even aware of an outstanding balance because nobody called me. Then they reopened an account for me two years ago under a different first name. I've canceled this account three times now. On October 3rd, I went in and complained loudly because they kept taking money from my checking account almost a year after I canceled in 2017. After making a huge fuss, they refunded my money that was being illegally taken. I have the cancellation form from that date. But today I checked my online banking and they took out another $10. I went in to speak with the manager, and she said my cancellation paperwork must not have been entered into the system before October 23rd. Excuse me? Your staff didn't submit my paperwork until more than 20 days after I was there? I told her to remove my checking account information from her computer and refund my money, which she did. Also, look at these contracts—they are completely fake. They print out a contract with no signature from you. Does the owner really think that will hold up in court? A computer-generated contract? I've contacted my lawyer, and it won't. So beware of signing anything there because anyone could open a membership in your name and nobody would know. Bad business. I am definitely contacting the fraud department because they are still taking money illegally. I'm also contacting the Better Business Bureau, which already has 14 complaints against them. If you've had a similar experience, contact the BBB so they don't get away with this. Also, if you search for World Gym cancellations online, there are hundreds of people complaining about the same thing—being charged illegally after canceling. So maybe now that I'm calling them out, the owner will actually care and contact me instead of only caring about money. The senior manager at the East Ave location said exactly this: the owner doesn't care if a cancellation form wasn't processed correctly, and it's your fault for not getting a copy; all he cares about is making money.
