About

Guest reviews mention the hot tub is 'patrolled' frequently, but the clothing-optional pool offers a relaxed vibe. Highlands Resort has been a vacation spot since 1924, and since 1979 it's been the oldest continuously operating LGBTQ resort in the Russian River area. The resort is straight-friendly but caters primarily to gay men. Accommodations include private cabins with kitchenettes, as well as tent camping in summer. There's no wifi, and cell coverage is spotty.

The resort sits on a hill above Guerneville, about a five-minute walk down a steep hill. Homemade breakfast muffins are a nice touch. For a more upscale option nearby, consider Boon Hotel and Spa . Highland's rustic redwood setting and clothing-optional pool make it a unique getaway. Book ahead for summer weekends.

“Area not what it used to be”

The gay community doesn't fill Guerneville the way it used to, and businesses have to earn a living. My main complaint is that the hot tub gets checked on very often. Maybe the city is behind that. (You can see that R3 removed their hot tub because the new owners found it too difficult to keep one under city rules). I miss that sexual vibe. Still, Highlands is a pleasant place to stay. I do appreciate the clothing optional pool. The management is doing their best. I've heard they are trying to sell the place.

“Love Highlands Resort”

I've been multiple times and always have a good time. They've been making improvements, and it's dog-friendly.

“You can be naked if you want, but no bar”

This is a calm, private, clothing-optional gay resort with a pool. But some of us would like a drink! It's a bit of a walk to town and the gay bars.

“Glad to go back!”

My partner and I are happy to be returning for a second year in a row! The staff made us feel completely at home! We'll see you on June 23rd bringing Wine, Cheese, and Crackers!

“Rural and woodsy”

The resort has private cabins with a bathroom, kitchenette, and sitting area. They are clean and well kept. The amenities are nice (clothing optional pool, hot tub, homemade breakfast muffins) but there is no wifi and cell reception is spotty. It sits on a hill above Guerneville, about a five minute walk down a steep slope. The place was fine but we probably wouldn't return. The whole area felt too rural for our taste. But if you're a bear wanting to be in the woods, go for it.
