The room was absolutely unlivable. It was filthy, the bed smelled like urine, and there were bugs. I had booked it for May 22 and 23, 2025. After checking in, I took my things to the room and noticed a strong urine smell and dirty floors. I cleaned with wipes and spray. Around 4:30 PM on May 22, I told the front desk clerk about how dirty it was and showed her a dirty wipe. She was nice and said there were no housekeeping staff but that she'd talk to the manager. I never heard anything back. The smell was bad, but I kept using spray. I stayed the night and realized the mattress was what smelled like urine. The next morning, my partner had bug bites. I lifted the sheets and saw what looked like dead bugs or bug droppings. The room was unlivable. I packed up and went to the front desk around 10:35 AM on May 23 to check out because the room was unlivable. The woman there was very rude and unprofessional. When I explained, she sarcastically asked what I expected. I asked for a refund for the night I wasn't staying. She bluntly said no refunds and told me to file a claim with my credit card company. She didn't check the room or look at my photos. It's clear the hotel manager isn't doing their job, and the person working the desk that morning needs customer service training. If you have a similar problem, dispute with your credit card, complain to the Better Business Bureau, and file with the Delaware Attorney General's Office to get this place investigated for unsafe conditions.

“Central to everything”

My partner and I have stayed at the Breakers four times. The hotel has been renovated recently and is still updating the exterior due to weather damage. On our last visit, we stayed in a renovated room with new beds, furniture, and decor. The hotel is decent for the price and its convenient location. If you want a simple inn within walking distance of the beach and the gayborhood, this is a good choice. Note that there's no gym, but they work with a nearby gym for a small fee.

“Rehoboth Beach Gem”

The Breakers isn't directly on the ocean, but it's in the middle of downtown Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. It's two blocks from the beach and boardwalk, so you can easily get to the best attractions, restaurants, entertainment, and shops in town. For gay visitors, Aqua is right across the street—a popular spot for an after-beach drink with friends—and Blue Moon is about a block away. It's near most gay bars and restaurants and about a mile from Poodle Beach, so you can't go wrong staying at The Breakers Hotel & Suites.
