The Thunderbird Inn
Hotel · Savannah, GA
About
You'll find a mixed crowd here: budget-conscious travelers, queer guests, and retro enthusiasts drawn by the renovated 1964 motor inn. The Thunderbird Inn leans into its funky, kitschy aesthetic with bright colors and vintage touches. Yelp reviews rate it 3.6 out of 5, with consistent feedback about comfortable beds and friendly staff, but also mixed notes on cleanliness. A reviewer reported staff reusing partially used amenity bottles, which gave them pause.
The location is a double-edged sword: you're steps from City Market and the historic district, but also across from a bus station. The hotel is dog-friendly and offers free wifi. For a more polished stay, consider the nearby Mansion on Forsyth Park . The Thunderbird Inn works if you want affordable, quirky lodging and don't mind some grit.

“Awesome”
I really enjoy this place! There's no internet filter anymore, though the connection can be a bit slow at times, but otherwise it works fine. The property is very clean and has a retro feel. The staff are also quite friendly and helpful. Plus, it has a lot of character!

“What happens in vegas does not happen at the Thunderbird Inn.”
There's a family-friendly internet filter here. Management controls what you can access online. You'd expect the trendiest hotel in town to avoid that. If their ads had said 'family friendly,' I wouldn't be stuck in this situation.

“One Night in Savannah”
I enjoyed most aspects of this quirky little Inn and found it cozier than chain hotels in the same price bracket. The beds were comfortable. I just wish the check-in clerk had been as welcoming as the check-out clerk. The maintenance guy was very kind and helpful. However, we were hit by a strong urine smell when we first entered our room.

“Stay away!”
This place is dreadful and deserves zero stars. The rooms are filthy, the neighborhood isn't very safe, and there's more wrong with it. Choose somewhere else and keep your distance.

“The Yuck Factor!”
At first I was happy because the front desk person was entertaining and upgraded my room to a large king suite. But when housekeeping didn't come on the second day, I went to get clean towels from the laundry room and saw a young woman combining the leftover contents of partly used bottles of the same shampoo and conditioner into other bottles that matched the ones in my room. I asked her what was happening, and she explained that the manager had ordered her to reuse all the bath products left behind by earlier guests, and though she thought it was disgusting, she would lose her job if she didn't. She gave me fresh towels, and I went back to my room, threw away all the bottles provided, and drove to a nearby drugstore to buy replacement toiletries. Obviously, this unsanitary practice is gross and a serious health risk, which is why I'll never stay here again.
