Bourbon Orleans Hotel
Hotel · New Orleans, LA
About
Unlike other French Quarter hotels, Bourbon Orleans has its own gay bar on site called Napoleon's Itch and sits directly across from the two main gay bars in New Orleans: Bourbon Pub and OZ. This historic hotel once hosted the Quadroon Ball, adding a layer of local lore. Expect classic Southern charm with French-inspired details, including a grand lobby with crystal chandeliers and marble columns. The hotel is mixed gay-straight and family-friendly, with outdoor seating and a pool.
Room sizes vary significantly, so check before booking. The pool is locked at night with spotlights to prevent after-hours access, and an assistant manager patrols the halls after dark. Some guests find this restrictive, but for most, the unbeatable location makes it a minor issue. The two-story loft suites with balconies come highly recommended. Free wifi is included.
Located in the French Quarter near Bourbon St, you're steps from nightlife and dining.

“WOW!”
I was fortunate to spend a week in a two-level suite during Halloween season. The location is perfect, and the hotel has amazing history as the site of the quadroon ball—the story is mind-blowing. Great pool and friendly staff. It's right in the middle of gay bars and excellent restaurants. Even if you don't stay, you should visit this place.

“Worth Every Dollar”
You can't beat this location, and the Jazz Bar here feels truly authentic and is a great place to relax on Bourbon Street, just a block from the popular club.

“Beautiful hotel with a rich history and perfect location”
The hotel has a gorgeous lobby with crystal chandeliers and marble columns. Its location is ideal for sightseeing and even better because it's directly across from the two main gay bars in New Orleans, the Bourbon Pub and OZ. Plus, the hotel has its own gay bar called Napoleons Itch. I highly recommend the two-story loft suite with a balcony. The hotel is expensive but well worth the money.

“Best Thing Is the Location”
My partner and I have stayed here for the past two Southern Decadence events. The first year the room was small, but the second year it was very spacious. Room sizes vary greatly. The best part is the location—you can't beat it for convenience. Rooms are well-furnished and clean, and I recommend it. But make no mistake—this hotel may be "gay friendly" but only to a certain extent. At night, an assistant manager wanders the halls to ensure nothing is going on, and the pool is locked up tight at night with bright spotlights so no one sneaks in. It gave me a feeling of being on lockdown at night. However, with so much to do we weren't in the room much, so it was a minor irritation at best. Staff is very friendly, as I would expect at any hotel.

“Perfectly in the center!”
I loved this place. Really friendly staff, and so close to the Bourbon Pub and Oz that I felt very safe stumbling home at 6am. It was an incredible experience. The hotel is a beautiful, old historic property—and get this, it used to be a convent! I felt right at home. The restaurant was good, with dinner offering local cuisine.
