About

Chelsea Mews Guesthouse is an all-male, clothing-optional guesthouse in an 1840s townhouse with 8 rooms. It's LGBTQ-owned and offers free bicycle tours of Manhattan. The vibe is men-only and clothing-optional, with a private, old-school feel.

Reviews are mixed, with some guests reporting uncomfortable interactions and cleanliness issues. The guesthouse previously offered in-house massages, but that service has been discontinued. If you choose to stay, know that the environment is very casual and clothing-optional, which may not suit everyone.

“Fun little place to stay!!!!”

I have stayed here several times and really enjoy it. It's a bit older and could use some updates, but it's very affordable. The clothing-optional aspect is fun; I've seen some attractive men in underwear or less. The staff have always been friendly and welcoming.

“My phone experience was very pleasant”

I don't understand all the negative reviews based on my long phone call with them today. The call lasted about 30 minutes, I wasn't rushed, and all my questions were answered. I asked about the in-house massages mentioned in a newspaper article, and they said those are no longer offered. I plan to visit in early May and will post again, but my conversation was very different from the tone of the reviews here. As someone who likes clothing-optional places, it's hard to find them in this area.

“creepy old smelly bath house”

First, the older staff member got our reservation wrong. He never wrote it down, then yelled at us and called us names. The middle-aged staff member walked in on me in the shower, expecting sex. I walked out of my room into the hallway and saw four naked men having sex. I couldn't get to the bathroom or shower. The place is old, dirty, and creepy. The older man should be in a nursing home. The middle-aged man needs to be arrested. Please stay away.

“Rude, Unprofessional, Creepy, Very Gross! Nightmare!”

Staying here was a nightmare. It costs $125 a night and isn't worth it. The middle-aged guy who checked me in (around 40) is a stupid, horny pig (my suggestion: go to the gym and work out). He started touching me during check-in. The other very old guy is full of drama. I saw him kick a guy out for forgetting to pay for an extra night. My suggestion to the guesthouse: clean your place. I know it's an old gay guesthouse, but that doesn't mean the staff have to be old-minded. Be professional without touching or groping people. For $125 you can get a nice private room in Chelsea via a short-term rental site and feel comfortable without hearing an old gay guy screaming and yelling.
