I recently had an express 24-hour stay at this hotel as part of a local staycation program. It's in Chelsea, near the High Line and Hudson River, on a quiet street. The design blends Nordic and Japanese styles, like an urban ryokan, with platform beds, warm lighting, and natural materials; some rooms have fireplaces, and bathrooms are small but some have soaking tubs. The room concept was nice, but I was disappointed by the lack of external views since a wall blocked what could have been a full window. The bathroom was very small, and the fireplace seemed purely decorative. I loved the ryokan-style bed but felt the phone sets should have been updated to match the theme. The food and drink experience wasn't great; the rooftop grill had a long wait and a rude host, so we left for another spot. I've been invited back for dinner, so I'll update after that. The ground-floor restaurant is popular for brunch with French-Latin food. Amenities include denim bathrobes, Aesop products, an iPad for room controls, and guest bicycles. I'd recommend it to young, non-budget travelers seeking a trendy Manhattan experience.
