An upscale venue with a very classy atmosphere.

“Retro-modern”
The Bowery is well-known for its bar scene, set in a faux-Gothic lounge that strongly reminds me of my Ivy League eating club. As a hotel, though, it's a charming, individualized, and unique spot. The rooms feature nice vintage details like rugs over hardwood floors, stained glass and exposed brick, and marble bathrooms that look traditional but have excellent modern water pressure. The internet works well, the high-definition TV has all the latest cable options. The bedding is smooth and comfortable. Room service comes very quickly. The area is lively and retains a genuine neighborhood character more than other parts of Manhattan these days. It's an easy walk to all kinds of interesting restaurants, and East Village and Lower East Side nightlife is just a few blocks away. It's become one of my top places to stay in New York.
