About

Bar: Full barBest nights: Fri, Sat, Sun

You step into a lobby that buzzes with energy, floor-to-ceiling windows framing the High Line park below. The Standard, High Line sits on stilts over the park, a surreal perch in Chelsea. Rooms are compact like a ship cabin, but the Hudson River views make up for it. This is a luxury hotel with a lively scene: a bustling Biergarten and grill downstairs, and a rooftop lounge with panoramic city sights.

The gym on the top floor offers great views while you work out. If you're looking to explore gay NYC, Chelsea's bars and clubs are just steps away. Rates are high, especially given the room size, so this is a splurge. But for a stylish stay with nonstop buzz, it's a solid choice. Nearby, the Marriott Marquis offers a different vibe if you prefer a larger chain hotel.

“Set sail on the Hudson”

It has to be said that the Standard's basic room is tiny, similar to a ship cabin. Everything is present and efficiently arranged, but there isn't much space for your luggage, let alone a companion. However, with the panoramic Hudson River view, I found it easy to overlook that and had an excellent stay. The rooftop gym is well-equipped and offers great views. The downstairs grill and beer garden are lively. The 17th-floor lounge, open to guests in the late afternoon, may be the most impressive place to relax in the city. You definitely pay for the privilege of being there, and as someone who isn't a famous model or celebrity, I'm not sure how to get in after dark. With all the excitement and enjoyment, prices are rising, especially if you measure by square footage. But if you're willing to treat yourself and aren't bringing a steamer trunk, go ahead.
