About

The scent of old wood and polished brass greets you as you step into the Warwick Melrose Hotel's lobby. This is Oaklawn's historic grand dame, a place where 19th-century Americana details—like brass mail chutes and marble elevators—set the tone. The guest rooms and common areas show some wear, but the service is consistently exceptional, and the location is unbeatable: you're steps from the bars and restaurants on Cedar Springs, Dallas's main gay strip. The on-site four-star restaurant adds to the appeal, and there's a lounge atmosphere in the evenings. Valet parking is the only option, so plan accordingly. For a classic stay with easy access to the city's LGBTQ+ nightlife, this hotel delivers.

“Great location”

This is a really nice hotel with outstanding staff. The room was big and clean. I didn't appreciate that housekeeping knocked and started opening my door twice before I could say skip it. Only valet parking is available if you drive. It's near the center of Gay Dallas, so many bars and restaurants are within walking distance.

“Nice hotel and Close to Strip”

This hotel is excellent, with welcoming staff and good dining options within walking distance of the well-known gay area. It's also near downtown, only an 8-dollar cab ride away.

“Shabbaceous Chic”

A great place to stay with exceptional service from arrival through check-in, the room, bars, and staff. The interior has a nice 19th-century American feel, with brass mail chutes and marble elevators. However, to be truly great it needs updates—the hallways, rooms, and furniture are a bit worn, not in a stylish way but simply tired. Not uncomfortably so, but at this price point it competes with newly renovated upscale chains like the Intercontinental, Hilton, and Marriott, and it doesn't compare well. Location is very convenient from the freeway, minutes by car from Dallas Gold's Gym, and within walking distance to many bars and restaurants in the main gay area.
