Le Méridien Arlington

Over a year ago First Review May 3, 2020 We stayed four nights and appreciated how friendly and professional the staff were. The downside was that we came to relax and decompress, not to move around the room constantly. We had to change rooms twice because of maintenance issues, and we felt the staff should have automatically upgraded us to make up for the inconvenience of having to get dressed and pack up twice to move to different floors. However, the third room was perfect. Overall, the service and experience were good but could have been exceptional. Second Review May 4, 2020 WARNING!!! The general manager, Hazel, is spiteful and vindictive. Yesterday, I left a negative review. Right after that, my card was charged $106. Today, I called the hotel to ask about the charge. Hazel told me it was a cleaning fee, and when I asked why, she said housekeeping had to clean up blood in the room. I asked why I wasn't contacted before the charge was made, but she never answered. Then I asked how she could be sure what she saw was actually blood—does she have a degree in forensic science? She said as general manager she has biohazard training, REALLY??? I am shocked and offended by her unfounded conclusion. Does that training give her permission to accuse without investigating? How can she know it was blood without proper testing? It seems like she might be in the wrong profession. As general manager, she needs more training in conflict resolution and communication. Her arrogance is distasteful and disdainful. This is my second negative review about her unprofessionalism. During this pandemic, unwarranted accusations are never acceptable or appreciated. My husband and I will definitely not return, and we have warned our friends and family not to patronize this hotel anymore. The general manager can take credit for the lost business. This review was mysteriously removed from the hotel's website only to be reposted.

“Virginia is close enough for DC”

I visit DC often and am a loyal member of the Starwood Preferred Guest program. I'm committed to the brand and love the 4:00pm checkout I get as a Gold member. I planned a weekend trip to DC for a family event in Takoma Park, wanting to take advantage of my summer Fridays off to visit early—see friends and see some sights. But I booked my Friday night room at the last minute and hoped to find a reasonable rate in Washington proper. That didn't work out—rooms were almost $200 before taxes. I know the Metro well, so I decided to break my habit and get a room in Virginia to save money. I like the Le Méridien brand and its history. It was founded in 1972 by Air France and has been part of Starwood since 2005. I've also stayed at the brand's first property in Paris. The hotels have an international feel—a subtle sophistication that makes me feel like a jetsetter when I stay. The same was true here in Arlington. The location is perfect—about a five-minute walk from the Metro. Rosslyn Station is convenient for anyone taking Amtrak from Baltimore and points north; you can get off at New Carrollton and take the Orange Line for 35 minutes to Rosslyn instead of going into Union Station, taking the Red Line to Metro Center, and switching to a Vienna-bound Orange. The hotel was being renovated during my stay, and the new color scheme for the rooms was on display. I was already pleased—butter and tan tones with sleek, minimal furniture lines and the same colors in an abstract carpet pattern. The room was still in good shape, but the update was probably needed. My room also had a great view of the Washington Monument. Because the hotel is in a great location, I could easily get around DC and its surroundings via Metro. I went to Shaw, Downtown, Takoma Park, and even Silver Spring from my Arlington base. The staff were outgoing and friendly. Everyone I interacted with was in a good mood. The hotel shares the building with Waterview Condominiums. I think having residents there led to the area having a Safeway, Target, and other amenities, which I always find very convenient. My room rate was $122.55, prepaid (which I paid at 2am the morning of check-in), but I've seen prepaid rates as low as $94. For a weekend visit to Washington, Le Méridien was ideal!
