Casita Del Campo

About
Silverlake's Casita Del Campo has been dishing out Mexican-American fare since 1962. The atmosphere is campy and colorful, with a crowd that's mixed gay and straight. It's known as much for its drag shows and theater downstairs as for its food. The bar area is dimmer than the main dining room, and outdoor seating is available.
Regulars say the chips and salsa are reliably good, but the main dishes get mixed reviews. Some call the food overpriced for the quality. The margaritas are decent. If you're here for the entertainment, weekends are the time to go.
Casita Del Campo sits in Silverlake, a diverse Los Angeles neighborhood known for its indie arts scene and dining options.

“L.A.'s most colorful Mexican restaurant”
This is the only spot in town where you can get authentic Mexican food and strong margaritas, then head to the basement for a drag musical about Karen Carpenter.

“Very Welcoming”
I always bring my friends here. The staff are friendly and attentive, and you are treated well. It's a great place to take a date. It's quiet so you can have a decent conversation. The bar area is a bit darker than the main dining room and has booths if you would rather eat in there. I've never been disappointed by the food. It's really pretty good.

“A great place to visit”
I had some friends visit and we drove from a neighboring city to Silverlake to enjoy the excellent food, the great ambiance and excellent services from staff. Love it! Unique, Charming handled with class. I heard they have entertainment on the bottom floor on weekends (I will definitely be checking this out in the future). The host could have been on the dessert menu. Yum Yum.

“Why Casita?”
I've never understood the allure of Casita del Campo. I find it's among the worst Mexican food in the city. It's highly overpriced for what you get. Yes it's campy. Yes it's gay. The margaritas are ok, but don't make up for the poor food quality.

“Very good food, nice place.”
We always ate here frequently when we lived up in Mid Wilshire, now we make it a stopping point when up in this area on a day out, the food is always good and friendly staff. Haven't had a bad meal here once.
