“Be care of the blackboard specials”
I've passed this spot for years at the corner of Arenas and Indian Canyon in Palm Springs. On a Sunday night it was quite busy, and I was dining alone. The only available seat was a high top near the front window, which worked well. The welcome was friendly, service was good, and the menu was interesting with a blackboard of specials but no prices listed. The menu seemed reasonably priced, so I ordered from the blackboard. That turned out to be a mistake: a small Brussels sprouts salad cost $10 and swordfish was $30, much higher than regular menu items. The food and service were excellent, but I was surprised by the bill.

“Well Traveled”
Great location and good food, but a bit pricey. The owner seems full of himself; don't walk in carrying a Starbucks coffee because you'll be asked to leave.

“What? You haven't been here yet?!?!”
We visit Johannes every time we're in Palm Springs and have never been let down. The menu leans upscale and creative, focusing on seasonal local and sustainable meats and produce, but it's not outrageously expensive. They have a great drinks menu and wine list. The staff is always very friendly. It's perfect for a quiet dinner for two or a small group. Go, you won't regret it.
