About

The patio at Java House is the place to be spring, summer, and fall, with people watching and chatting with friends as they pass by. Gay, straight, and a few local political celebs call this tiny coffee shop home. Located at the bustling 17th & Q Streets NW corner, it's been serving Washington DC since 1990. The owner roasts their own beans in front of everyone, offering over 40 different blends like Ethiopian Yirgacheffe or Papua New Guinea. The menu includes lattes, macchiatos, and bagel with lox, all at a budget-friendly price. It's small. The patio is the main draw. Dogs are welcome. Open daily 7am to 5pm, this Dupont spot is a locals' favorite for a casual coffee or a sandwich. Don't expect to get much work done on the patio during warmer months.

Java House sits in Dupont at the corner of 17th & Q Streets, a busy intersection known as the gay corner.

“Free wi-fi and No Starbucks Prices”

I enjoy iced coffee here, and it's affordable. Java House is a tiny café at the busy corner of 17th and Q Streets in the NW part of the city, serving fresh-ground coffee, pastries, sandwiches, and an excellent bagel with lox. The patio is ideal in spring, summer, and fall for reading or working on a laptop, but it's hard to focus because there's so much people-watching and chatting with passing friends. The crowd includes gay, straight, and a few local political figures.
