Trio Restaurant
American · Breakfast · Washington, DC
About
Trio is a Dupont Circle throwback that's been serving the neighborhood since 1950, and its renovation only made the kitsch dial go higher. The gay diner attracts a mixed-age crowd of regulars and tourists, with drag shows and a covered patio adding to the casual vibe. Food is generous but not the main draw; you come for the scene.
Brunch on weekends is the busiest time, with all-you-can-drink mimosas and Bloody Marys for $16. Arrive early Sunday to snag a patio table. Hours are limited weeknights (opens at 3pm), but Fridays through Sundays start at 10 or 11am. Note that Yelp lists Trio as possibly permanently closed, so confirm before heading over.
Trio sits in Dupont Circle, a historic LGBTQ+ hub in DC with plenty of nightlife and dining options.

“Very Friendly and great food!!”
We went to a nearby restaurant first but their kitchen had closed, so we came here around 10:10 PM. The staff was happy to see us and provided excellent service. The food was delicious!

The food was good. They have the best crab cakes in town, with generous portions. The staff was friendly.

“Good food, terrible service”
If you want huge portions of American food, go ahead, but don't be surprised if you're accused of stealing the cash you left as a tip.
