About

Bar: Full barBest nights: Tue, Fri

Blue Moon is the longest surviving gay bar in Rehoboth Beach, operating since 1981 as a drag dinner theater with fine dining. The venue serves a mix of American, Asian, French, and seafood cuisines, plus a popular Sunday brunch. Its Yelp rating sits at 4 out of 5 stars from 389 reviews, with confirmed amenities including a full bar, happy hour specials, outdoor seating, and reservations accepted. However, one reviewer reported a disturbing incident involving an intoxicated owner who allegedly discriminated against a disabled HIV-positive patron with a service dog, calling into question the venue's inclusivity despite its LGBTQ+ history.

The weekend brunch draws a crowd of 40-somethings, and Friday and Saturday nights feature drag shows late into the evening. The space can feel cramped during peak hours, so arrive early if you want a seat. For a casual seafood dinner nearby, try Go Fish! three blocks south. Regulars recommend Tuesdays or Fridays for the best energy.

“Blue Moon”

The crowd is great, but the space is far too small for the number of people, making it hard to get a drink or have a conversation. They really need a bigger location. I wouldn't recommend it.

“Bad news for the Blue Moon”

The Blue Moon is the oldest continuously operating gay bar in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. However, the owners seem stuck in the early '80s. I am a disabled, HIV-positive gay man with a service dog—a Boxer that alerts me to seizures. One evening on the patio, a drunk owner yelled, telling me to get my filthy dog off the patio, saying he didn't care if I had AIDS and that I wasn't welcome. First, I have HIV, not AIDS. The Americans with Disabilities Act allows my service dog anywhere the public goes. For a gay bar to discriminate based on HIV in 2012 is outrageous. Another bar, Aqua, also said no service dogs. Rehoboth Beach is like a fantasy town where people ignore HIV/AIDS and ruin your evening. Don't waste time or money at either place; spread the word about the discrimination HIV-positive people face here.

“Old Favorite”

The service is the best I've ever had at any bar. It can get extremely busy on holiday weekends, so if you're claustrophobic, avoid it during peak times.

“pretty by snooty”

The place is too arrogant, too unfriendly, and such a letdown for an evening we were excited about. The attitude ruined any fun we might have had.
