About

You'll find a mixed crowd here — locals and tourists, gay and straight — all digging into hefty portions of Greek food. Greek Islands Taverna sits around the corner from Dudes, a popular gay bar, making it a convenient pre- or post-drink stop. The vibe is casual and bustling, with outdoor seating that fills up fast. The menu covers classics like lamb, shrimp, and hummus, with most plates landing at reasonable prices for the beachside area.

Service can be inconsistent, so be patient. A regular's tip: skip the complicated entrance and head straight for the host stand in the middle of the room. The hummus is fresh and comes with warm bread. If you're nearby, Casablanca Cafe is another option worth trying.

“Not recommended”

This place was truly disappointing. I came here to treat myself while on vacation. The entrance was confusing due to the doors, and I couldn't find the host stand easily since it was in the middle of the restaurant instead of near the second door. The food was mediocre at best. The hummus was bland and served with wheat bread. The shrimp appetizer looked nice, but it cost about $4 per shrimp and they were swimming in sauce. My main dish resembled canned Chef Boyardee: leg of lamb that was tender but covered in a boring tomato sauce with overcooked orzo. I decided to skip dessert. Service didn't help either; we had to call the server multiple times. I love Greek food and have had many great experiences, but I'll try another place next time.

“nice place”

The hummus is delicious, and the soda isn't flat! I haven't had lunch yet, but it looks like it will be great. The hummus is fresh and tasty, served with freshly baked bread. It's a nice, busy place with wealthy patrons looking for a good lunch at a fair price.

“I never miss an opportunity to eat here”

The food here is so good that there's often a line to get in. It's one of the best restaurants I've been to. Try the shrimp or the lamb chops, but everything on the menu is wonderful. The waitstaff is excellent, and even though it's not a gay venue, the other customers are friendly. One night we were seated next to a big group of older straight people. They started sharing their appetizers with us (and we accepted). It's a great, friendly crowd.
