About

The Sunday brunch crowd spills onto the patio at Michael Forbes Bar & Grille, a gay-owned spot in Brookside. The menu leans into seafood and American classics, with an eclectic mix available for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It's a place where local LGBTQ+ regulars mix with straight neighbors over drinks and food.

Recent reviews flag slow service at the bar, with complaints about bartenders being inattentive. If you're stopping by, weekends might test your patience. The health department once shut them down briefly, according to one customer. Still, some find the breakfast menu a reliable post-night-out cure. Head to the nearby Fiorella's Jack Stack Barbecue if you want a guaranteed service experience.

Located in South Kansas City near the intersection of 63rd Street and Wyandotte, this spot is a fixture in the Brookside area.

“Not bad”

A bit run-down. The filet was tasty. The bartender was nice and attractive. And there was one other gay patron! Apparently on weekends it draws the old gay crowd.

“FORGET THIS PLACE”

I visited several bars and restaurants in Kansas City on a business trip. This was the worst. The bartenders didn't care if customers came in. And after one drink, good luck getting a second. They chatted with each other in the back and provided no service. There are plenty of other bars where they value their customers.

“NOT a freindly place to go”

I visited earlier this year. The food was mediocre, and I heard the City Health Department shut them down temporarily. I sat at the bar and waited a very long time for service. There were only about 8 customers, but the bartender was chatting with coworkers in the back and was very rude. I will not return. Bartenders need to be friendlier.
