Lotus of Siam is a Thai restaurant that rightfully earns its fame, having received international praise from top chefs. Both tourists and locals love the flavorful food. There's a huge selection, neatly divided into regional dishes and chef's favorites, and the wine list is as extensive as the menu. The lunch buffet is quick, convenient, and cheap, with some good options, but the real artistry is in the menu items, which are worth the cab fare from The Strip. Don't let the shabby exterior of the Commercial Center fool you—Lotus of Siam is still open, clean, comfortable, and lives up to its excellent reputation. Dinner waits can be hours without reservations, and even the lunch crowd arrives right at 11:30 opening, but your taste buds will thank you.

“Excellent and affordable food.”

The lunch buffet is a great deal. The food is fresh, tasty, and changes daily. There are plenty of vegetables and fruits for those watching their diet. From the outside, the place looks plain in the ugly Commercial Center, but inside it's much bigger than expected, very clean, and well-organized. Service is good. I may not love every dish offered, but I've been impressed by the taste and freshness. A must-visit if you have a car and enjoy Thai food.

“Best Thai Food. Period.”

I had dinner there again last night—luckily Lotus of Siam is only about six blocks from my home, so I can order takeout and skip the long line of people waiting for Saipin Chutima's excellent food. The menu offers a wide variety, including rare northern Thai specialties. Wine pairings include lots of Rieslings and lighter wines that complement the spicy dishes. Whatever you choose—duck, chicken, seafood, beef, pork—it's cooked perfectly. If you're overwhelmed, the staff or even the chef can help you decide. You really can't go wrong. Whenever someone visits Las Vegas, Lotus is one of the restaurants we enjoy. Sometimes Saipin takes your order and adjusts the spice level based on what she thinks you can handle. A medium here is probably a 7 or 8 elsewhere, depending on the dish. The dining environment isn't anything special, but no one notices the strip mall setting once they taste the food. Service is always spot on; call at least a day in advance for reservations because they don't answer the phone until evening. The dining room is being expanded into the space next door—it was supposed to be done in December but looks like it won't open until late February 2010. Check the menu on the website.
