Anchor Bar
American · Buffalo, NY
About
The scent of fried chicken wings and tangy sauce hits you at the door. This is the Anchor Bar, the place where buffalo wings were invented in 1964 by Teressa Bellissimo. It's a casual American spot with a full bar, outdoor seating, and multiple TVs for sports fans. The bar earned a James Beard America's Classics Award in 2003 and has been a Buffalo institution since 1935.
Go on a weekday for a quieter visit. Weekends get busier, especially Friday and Saturday nights. The crowd is mixed, and dogs are welcome on the patio. Wings come with that original secret sauce, no fancy variations needed.

“I don't like this”
Unclean, inconvenient, and there are plenty of other spots with wings that are just as good or better. Give it a pass.

“The original”
When you visit Buffalo, this place is a must for wings since they created them. However, pretty much any local bar in the city offers wings that are probably equally tasty.
