About
Chez Josephine isn't just another French bistro in New York. It's a theatrical tribute to Josephine Baker, opened in 1986 by Jean-Claude Baker, who met the legendary entertainer as a teenage bellhop in Paris. The lavish decor and dark lighting set a romantic, upscale mood, with live music nightly. The menu reinvents traditional French bistro fare, and the owner himself treats guests like family.
The restaurant sits in Times Square, but inside it feels like Montmartre. Outdoor seating is available, and they take reservations. Regulars say Monday and Tuesday are the best nights to visit for a more intimate experience. If you're looking for a spot with personality and history, this is it.
Chez Josephine is located in Times Square, the bustling theater district of Midtown Manhattan. The area is known for Broadway shows and tourist attractions.

“FABULOUSLY MARVELOUS ! ! ! ! ! ! !”
A visit to the city isn't complete without eating at Chez Josephine. The owner, Jean-Claude Baker, is the best in the world—flamboyant, interesting, fun, funny, and always makes you feel welcome. Dim lighting, romantic atmosphere, and just fantastic. Great food, wonderful ambiance, and Jean-Claude is the perfect host. If you don't eat anywhere else in the city, be sure to eat here.
