About

Bar: Full barBest nights: Fri, Sat, Sun

The music pounds loud enough to make conversation difficult, but the cocktails are expertly made and the crowd is eye candy. Elmo is a fashion-forward restaurant and lounge in Chelsea that's been serving American fusion and soul food since 2001. It's known for its trendy vibe, DJ'd music on Thursday through Saturday nights and Sunday brunch, and a basement lounge that hosts private parties. The food gets mixed reviews — some call it average, others praise the large portions and good prices. You'll find a straight, gay, and mixed-age clientele here, including families with children.

Best nights are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday when the DJs are spinning. The restaurant takes reservations, has a full bar, and offers outdoor seating. But note: Yelp shows this venue may be permanently closed, so check before heading out. The waitstaff is reportedly attentive and attractive, and the bartenders know their craft. If you prefer quiet conversation, this might not be your spot — the volume is consistently loud.

Located in Chelsea, Elmo sits in one of New York's most gay-popular neighborhoods, known for its vibrant nightlife and dining scene.

This place is awful. If anyone wants to go, contact me. I am always available. Food lover's dream. Staff is friendly.

The food is delicious. But don't come here if you're very hungry.

“Average Food... Good vibe.”

The food is decent but not remarkable. It's reliable, which might explain its popularity. The atmosphere is excellent, though.

“Best "gay" restaurant.”

I am over 60 and visit Elmo often. The bartenders are skilled at making cocktails, both classic and modern. The waitstaff is attentive and attractive. The food is excellent with big portions at reasonable prices. Gay-friendly restaurants often fall short, but Elmo excels. You will want to eat the food, and the waiters and other guests are nice to look at. It is not exclusively gay; straight people, gay people, and families with children come here. The only downside is that the music is often too loud, making conversation with dinner companions nearly impossible without shouting. The downstairs lounge is also a great spot for private events.

“good adress”

Order the Slider Trio. A good meal... It would be better with more lighting in the evening. I found it too dark.
