About

Think Tex-Mex is always casual? Mi Cocina in University Park proves otherwise. This upscale bistro in Highland Park Village serves brisket tacos, guacamole, and specialties in a see-and-be-seen setting. It's a local favorite for its Mambo Taxi margaritas, which pack a punch. The menu leans Mexican with a Tex-Mex twist, and the crowd ranges from shoppers to regulars.

You'll find a full bar and solid service, but remember: fountain drinks don't include free refills. Prices are moderate, with a $$ tag, but the food and drinks deliver. Want a calmer vibe? Nearby Velvet Taco offers a more relaxed alternative. Check hours and reviews.

“Good Food and Ritas”

The food is fantastic and the margaritas are excellent! Two of their Mambo Taxis will have you practically crawling out the door. The only drawback is that prices are fairly high, but if you want a margarita that knocks you out, this is the spot.

“what a joke”

This place gets one star only because I can't give it zero. What a letdown! The restaurant is in a great shopping area, looked nice, and the staff was just okay. But the food was really disappointing. The guacamole is just mashed avocados with nothing else. We told the server it was bland, and he offered to bring jalapeños in lime juice but didn't mention it would cost extra. We ordered steak medium well and it came out red inside. Also, the server never said fountain drinks don't come with free refills, so we ended up paying over $10 for sodas for two people. There was so much hype and we had high hopes, but it was an overpriced meal with no flavor. I strongly recommend the smaller restaurants around town, like Cafe Brazil.
