Mosquito Cafe
American · Galveston, TX
About
Downtown Galveston's East End Historic District is home to Mosquito Cafe, a family-run spot since 1999 serving American cuisine in a casual, homelike setting. The owners run it with their daughters, and the menu features unique, fresh, homemade food with generous portions. The 1853 building has lots of windows and a spacious outdoor patio.
You order at the counter, get a number, and find a seat. Service is minimal after that, but the food makes up for it. Happy hour and dog-friendly patio are perks. Note: Yelp suggests it may be permanently closed, so call ahead.

“Good food but lacking in service element!”
The food was excellent, but service needs improvement. You queue up to order with a distracted cashier who just asks what you want, then you get a number and wait. When the food arrives, they drop off napkins, silverware, and the meal but never check back. Adding a hostess could really enhance the experience with personal service. When it's busy, you might have to compete with others to grab a table. It's a bit strange, but the food is good. If they brought back proper service, they'd be top-notch.
