About

Bar: Full barBest nights: Fri, Sat, Sun

Liberty Bar suits groups who want inventive American-Spanish fusion food with craft cocktails in a relaxed setting. Housed in a former convent in King William, the restaurant has been an LGBTQ+-friendly fixture since 1984, when it began in a bookstore. The space feels intimate and lived-in, with outdoor seating and a full bar. Dogs are welcome on the patio, and happy hour draws a mixed crowd.

The menu runs from tapas to brunch to sandwiches, all prepared on-site. Reservations are accepted for groups, and the kitchen serves until late on weekends. For a local aside, nearby The Guenther House is a popular spot. Most reviews call the food worthwhile, and the convent setting adds character you won't find elsewhere.

Liberty Bar is located in the King William neighborhood, a historic and vibrant area south of downtown San Antonio.

“Go before they move locations!”

This is a wonderful dining spot in San Antonio. It's a bit pricey, but the food and ambiance make it worthwhile. The building they're in is practically collapsing after a century in midtown San Antonio, and unfortunately, Liberty Bar will be relocating to a nearby spot later in 2010. Anyone in the San Antonio area or just passing through should definitely check it out.

“New location, same great food!”

I really liked the original location, even though it was in a sketchy area. The new location is in King William, which is a trendy neighborhood, and the food is amazing in what used to be a convent!
