In Washington Square West, a tiny sign reading "Halloween" marks the entrance to one of Philadelphia's most eccentric jewelry destinations. The two-story Victorian interior is packed with custom jewelry, antique curios, and oddities like naked-men sculptures and a squid-themed balustrade. It's part antique shop, part cabinet of wonders. The vibe is more H.P. Lovecraft novel than costume store.
Hours are limited: Tuesday through Friday 12-5:30pm, Saturday 11am-3:30pm. It's easy to miss, but that's part of the charm. Regulars know to budget extra time to browse the endless bric-a-brac. Worth a side trip from Reading Terminal Market .

“Breathtaking”
I'm not sure why I entered this hard-to-find shop, which has a tiny sign by the door reading 'Halloween' and a glance inside at the almost lurid antique interior made me go in. Although it claims to offer 'custom jewelry', that would be like calling a major museum a bookstore. From the squid-themed stair railing to the nude male sculptures, unusual antique and custom jewelry displayed like Victorian curios in cabinets, and endless knick-knacks that would take hours to enjoyably go through, this store reminded me at once of the TV series 'Friday the 13th' and something nightmarish from an H.P. Lovecraft novel. I am certain something evil is hidden in a well in the basement. Well worth a detour.
