Near Rice University in the University neighborhood, Sloan-Hall is a gift shop and boutique selling clothing accessories, gifts, and home decor. It's proudly gay owned and operated. What you'll find is carefully curated: an extensive perfume section, art objects in bronze, ceramic, porcelain, wood, glass, and metal, plus art books (many with gay and erotic themes) from Taschen and other publishers. You'll also see ironic knick-knacks and a good CD collection. The shop is open Monday through Saturday, 10am to 5pm. It's a spot for finding unusual gifts, from a white Porcelain Rhinoceros (designed in 1770) to modern jewelry. If you're near the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, it's worth a stop.
Plan for at least 30 minutes to browse the eclectic collection. Regulars come for the art book selection and the rotating inventory of strange decorative objects. The price tier is $$$$, so it's more for splurging on a special find than everyday shopping. Street parking is available on Kirby Drive.

“For Your Last Minute Nymphenburg Skull Needs”
A wonderfully odd gift shop with a big perfume and scent area that doesn't interest me, but otherwise a thoughtfully chosen mix of art, odd bronze, ceramic, porcelain, wood, glass, and hard-to-identify metal dishes, plates, lamps, and decorative objects — a white porcelain rhinoceros from 1770? Why not! A great selection of art books, many with excellent gay and erotic themes that I browse to see what's new from Taschen and other publishers. A solid CD selection and loads of plastic ironic trinkets. Worth a stop. Very gay owned and run.
