ZEBRAZ was born after Shocking Gray had departed, when Glenn Chase launched a full-fledged pride store in 1995. Today it calls itself the world's largest gay and lesbian online department store, but the physical shop in San Antonio's University area is worth a visit too. You'll find clothing, gifts, sundries, and adult toys alongside the usual pride gear. It's dog friendly, and the vibe is fun and a little chaotic. A regular says they're always drunk when they pop in, which should tell you something about the atmosphere.
The shop stocks products from gay and lesbian artisans, so you're not just buying generic trinkets. A catastrophic flood in 1998 wiped out the entire inventory, but ZEBRAZ rebuilt and kept growing.
