The Griffith Observatory sits on a hilltop near the famous Hollywood sign, and the night view of the illuminated valley from its walkway is stunning. If astronomy excites you, the new "show of the stars" will definitely get your heart racing. You can now book an appointment to look through the observatory's telescope at the night sky, and it's absolutely worth doing. Bring a camera whether you visit during the day or at night, since the scenery is something you'll want to capture forever.

We visit many observatories across the country, and this one ranks among the best with great city views. The drive up is scenic. Arrive early in the morning or just before closing to avoid crowds.
